Support Groups for new Home Schoolers

Smoothing the Way is a support group dedicated to serving first-year homeschooling mothers. Each month a topic of specific interest to the new homeschooler is offered.  Veteran homeschooling moms and guest speakers are available to inform and encourage those who have decided to take on the exciting, yet sometimes daunting, task of educating their own children.  If you are homeschooling children ages two through five, "Starting the Way" seminars can encourage you and address learning which teaching methods and materials work best for this special age group.  Learn how to use these important years to build a love of learning.

Carol Joy Seid provides three different all day seminars.  "Let the Little Children Come: raising little ones for the kingdom of God" goes over:  Creating a loving, nurturing environment in your home; introducing little ones to the Jesus who loved little children; helping children learn to obey the the first time, and with a happy heart;  how to make children lovers of books by making reading aloud the highpoint of their day;  teaching children to work, while they are young, and want to help

"A Literature Based Approach to Education " goes over"Developing your own philosophy of education  -- learn about readiness, child development, when to teach reading, and why boys learn so much differently than girls.  How to make your child a lover of books; receive Carole's list of what books you can't let  your children leave childhood without reading.  Teaching history using classical literature -- use literature to teach history, art, music and science with Carole's invaluable timeline hand-outs of Western Civilization.  Creative curriculum -- How to design your own curriculum for math, science, handwriting, grammar, foreign language, etc. simply and inexpensively.

"Begin with the End in Mind" goes over: Expanding your vision --  What about socialization, apprenticeships,  service, sports, travel and the arts?  A truly literature based approach -- Let the classics be the core of your curriculum.  Western civilization and christian world view -- Developing a philosophical grid through which to view society.  Curriculum options/college and or trade preparation -- How to cover the bases and get into the school or career of your choice.
